Felicia Prestwood ePortfolio for BA in Spanish
The ability to communicate with Spanish speakers and appreciate Hispanic cultures gives you a tremendous advantage in a wide range of careers. Whether on the job or in your community, your Spanish language competency and cultural understanding can help you establish valuable connections in the inter-dependent global community.
Hello, my name is Felicia Prestwood. I'm from a small town called Antelope near Sacramento, California. I go to CSU Monterey Bay and I am majoring in Spanish with an emphasis in literature and culture and a Human Communication minor.
Personal Statement
I started at CSUMB as an undeclared and indecisive student and I changed my major multiple times before committing to a Spanish major. I actually didn’t decide my major until my last couple of months of studying abroad in Spain. Here I realized I love learning new languages cultures, and how immersing in a foreign culture independently and being the “extranjera” creates perspective and the experience can build and change your character if you let it. I am a very spontaneous person and the impulsive decision to study abroad sparked my passion and gave me direction.
My ultimate goal is to learn multiple languages and live and work abroad again to see where it takes me. I have a passion for helping people so I am looking into humanitarian work in a Spanish-speaking country after I graduate to further perfect my Spanish. Eventually I want to study translation and interpretation and pursue a career that relates to that.
