The course examines opportunities in related professional and career paths, including graduate education and teaching credential preparation. (Offered fall semester.)
Reflective Narrative:
This class was beneficial because we learned about what we can do with a Spanish Major. It made me realize how beneficial it is in the professional world to know a second language.

Spanish 3o1 S
Description
This course is part of your Spanish language learning experience, and offers you the opportunity to interact in a personal way with members of the local Latino community, thereby enriching your understanding of Hispanic cultures and the Spanish language. As a community-based learning experience, the course provides students with career-related experience working collaboratively with community agencies to address community concerns / issues. (Offered fall semester). (Credit/No Credit Available)
Reflective Narrative:
For my service learning I volunteered at the Watsonville Law Center. Here I volunteered as a client interviewer. The majority of the clients who come in have legal issues and are unable to express the events in English, therefore the organization provides private interviews so they are able to express what they have to say to protect their rights and express their needs. Working there, I learned a lot about law. I was the only volunteer there who wasn't a law student I was proud to be a part of the Watsonville Law Center although it was such a short amount of time. Along with volunteering, we had class on Fridays. We would present about how our volunteering was going and turn in our journal entries for those couple of weeks. In the link are some of my journal entries.

SPAN 306: Cultur/Civ Span Ltn Amer
Description
Taught in Spanish, presents an historical and cultural overview of Hispanic Latin America from its pre-Columbian origins to the present through works of literature, art, music, and videos. Taught in Spanish. (Offered every fourth semester.)
Reflective Narrative:
I enjoyed this class because I like learning about culture and history, especially about places I haven't learned about before. We learned about every country in Central and South America in detail. I learned that although the continent is usually grouped together and generalized as one, that within the continent there are many different cultures, languages and people.

SPAN 325: Hispanic Cinema
Description
The Hispanic and Luso- Brazilian Cinematic Lens- A Memorable Gaze to Human Odyssey: This course will examine the multiple ways that Hispanic and Brazilian filmmakers have seen Hispanic world, its people, religious beliefs and cultures for more than a century. This course provides the student with a range of perspectives on cultural developments in Spain, Brazil, Latin America and the Caribbean from the colonial to the modern period, using critical and literary texts as well as films.
Reflective Narrative: I very much enjoyed this class. It was somewhat similar to my other cinema class, but we watched movies from Hispanic America as well. For each movie we watched, we had to have a journal entry to reflect. At the end of the course we did a group project where we presented about a cinematic movement. Although the class was taught in English, we learned a lot about Hispanic culture throughout time.
